SEA VEE SWEEP OF THE FIRST LEG!
November 9, 2009 - Bimini, Bahamas - We all know that wahoo season is rough. The winds are normally 15-20 and many times above that. The first leg of the Bahamas Wahoo Challenge was met with exactly that: high winds and big seas. Normally, these winds mark the edge of a cold front and hence good fishing, but the fishing gods did not get that memo as fishing was very slow the entire weekend.
The first day of fishing saw sporadic fish. The loudest team on the docks "Good Times" took the daily on Friday with 122 pounds (4 fish). They also had the largest fish of the day at 43 pounds. "Liborio" a.k.a. "Team Shocker" took 2nd place daily with 71 pounds (3 fish). "Contender" was in third for the day with 63 pounds of fish. "Lynne Louise," "Airborne," "Blackwater," and "Kimbuktu" all posted between 25 and 50 lbs of fish. The rest of the fleet went blank.
Fishing on the second day was even worse as only 3 teams weighed fish. “Airborne” took the daily with 77 pounds, “Kimbuktu” took second place in the daily with 54 pounds. “Sandy Beach” weighed the only other fish on Saturday at 37 pounds. "Good Times" did not weigh any fish on Saturday, but their Friday total was good enough to hold out. Their top fish also lasted ‘til Saturday. "Airborne" leaped from 5th to 2nd place and "Kimbuktu" rounded out the top three. These boats are all 39-foot Sea Vee’s for a Sea Vee sweep of the top three spots.
